Symbols
Access and insert often used symbols.
The default symbols are: Δ, Ø, #, @, n.a., €, $ and £.
You can customize the symbols by navigating to Functional Settings within the toolbar’s settings.
Pro tip: You can also add specific text like "Source: Management information" to quickly insert it by clicking the symbol or using a shortcut.
New Sheet
Insert a new sheet, with customizable properties and formats.
You can customize the symbols by navigating to New Sheet within the toolbar’s settings.
Sheet Links
Quickly create cell references to multiple sheets for navigation, comparison, or export. Ideal to:
Check the consistency of specific items (e.g., the placement of an EBITDA figure) across various sheets.
Create links to the same range across many sheets without manually navigating to each sheet.
How to use: Select the range and sheets you want to include, then launch the tool. It will compile a list of ranges for the active address across all chosen sheets. You can add more references, navigate through them, or export the list. Note that only one reference per sheet is allowed; adding another range to a sheet that’s already included will replace the existing reference.
Summarize Cells Based on Text
Search the workbook for specific text and generate a summary sheet, comprising all cells that contain the text.
This is especially useful for referencing specific parts of the workbook. For instance, if you're compiling a list of questions, use a unique prefix like ‘Question’ next to each relevant cell. Then, by summarizing all cells containing ‘Question’, you can quickly create a summary list of questions with direct links to those cells.
Tip: Usually, you can jump to the first cell referenced in a formula by double-clicking the cell. However, since some users have this feature disabled, we recommend converting the generated cell references to hyperlinks before sharing. To quickly add hyperlinks to the first cell address, you can use the Add HyperLink from Cell Reference utility.
Sort Rows in Multi-Range Selections
Sort rows by a column within multiple selected ranges. You can also sort by absolute values without creating a helper column.
Tip: Use this to sort items at the lowest hierarchy level while excluding subtotal rows.
Sort Columns in Multi-Range Selections
Sort columns by a row in a single or multiple range selection. Perfect for organizing EBITDA adjustments or sorting entities by size.
Note: The tool rearranges columns by cutting and pasting, ensuring that formulas referencing these columns remain intact. This differs from the Sort Rows tool, which uses Excel’s built in sort feature.
Group Similar Data Like Hierarchy/Mapping
Group and summarize similar data by adding subtotal rows or columns. Perfect for quickly creating a detailed P&L breakdown from a mapping or hierarchy table.
Note: Ensure the mapping or hierarchy is sorted before using this tool.
Compare Columns and Insert Missing Items
Identify and navigate items that are present in one column but missing from the other, with an option to automatically add the missing items.
Tip: Use this to quickly compare and update accounts in your P&L breakdown when you receive new trial balances / GL information, ensuring all new accounts are included.
Clean Workbook (Select A1, Collapse Groups, Zoom)
Apply basic procedures across selected sheets or the entire workbook such as:
Expanding or collapsing groups / outline
Selecting cell A1
Adjusting the zoom level
Remove or Unhide Defined Names
This more technical tool offers a solution for deleting (broken) named ranges if Excel’s native name manager is corrupted due to too many named ranges.
List Ranges Referenced in Selected Range (Precedents)
Find and navigate ranges referenced in the current selection.
List Ranges Referencing Selected Range (Dependents)
Find and navigate ranges that reference the current selection.
Trace Sheet Precedents
Find and navigate sheets that are referenced in the current sheet. The tool screens ranges, charts and hyperlinks.
Trace Sheet Dependents
Find and navigate sheets that reference the current sheet. The tool screens ranges, charts and hyperlinks.
